Anti-Piracy Bridge Procedures
E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and riskDefinition
BMP-aligned hardening, lookout, and citadel readiness routines.
Bridge-team routines drawn from Best Management Practices to deter and survive a pirate approach. Under BMP5 (2018), the master sets a hardening plan: extra lookouts and night-vision aids, ready VHF and Inmarsat-C for a UKMTO and MSCHOA report, alarms and pre-briefed mustering, increased speed and helm maneuvers to throw off skiffs, and immediate retreat to a citadel if boarders close. The bridge logs position against the Voluntary Reporting Area and Area of Heightened Risk, and triggers the Ship Security Alert System under SOLAS XI-2 Regulation 6 when an attack is confirmed.
