Block erection schedule
B4. Shipbuilding, Materials, Sea Trials, Retrofits and RecyclingDefinition
Master plan for joining hull blocks.
The block erection schedule is the master sequence that fixes the order and timing for joining prefabricated hull blocks into the complete ship on the building berth or in the building dock. It follows from the block division and pre-outfitting plans: bottom and side shell blocks land first around the keel and erection joints, then upper decks, engine room, superstructure, and forecastle blocks, with crane capacity, joint access, and weld and accuracy-control checks driving the order. Modern yards use grand blocks joined at pre-erection to cut crane lifts and shorten dock time. A slipped erection joint cascades delay across every later block.
