Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN)

Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) is Inmarsat’s L-band IP data and voice service carried over the I-4 geostationary satellites, covering roughly 70N to 70S. Standard IP runs to about 492 kbps shared with a streaming IP class for guaranteed rates. BGAN serves portable and fixed terminals for remote and maritime use; FleetBroadband is the maritime-optimized variant built on the same L-band network. Because L-band needs only a small antenna and resists rain fade, BGAN gives resilient narrowband connectivity where Ka or Ku broadband is unavailable.
