Bulker High-Risk Voyage
E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and riskDefinition
Voyage requiring enhanced security tier under charterparty war clauses.
A dry-bulk voyage routed through or near a designated high-risk or war-risk area, triggering enhanced security measures and contractual cost shifts. The Lloyd’s Joint War Committee listed-areas circular defines the geographic zones; a transit there activates charterparty war clauses such as CONWARTIME and BIMCO’s piracy clauses, allowing additional war-risk premium, kidnap-and-ransom cover, hardening per BMP5, and sometimes armed guards. The owner-charterer split of premium, guard, and rerouting costs follows the clause wording.
