C-Band Satcom

C-Band satcom uses the 4 to 8 GHz portion of the spectrum (roughly 3.7 to 4.2 GHz downlink, 5.9 to 6.4 GHz uplink) for geostationary fixed-satellite links. Its lower frequency resists rain fade better than Ku or Ka, so it stays usable in tropical downpours, but it needs a large antenna (typically 2.4 m or more) and offers less throughput than high-throughput Ka beams. Maritime C-band appears mainly on large vessels, drillships, and offshore units operating in heavy-rain regions where link availability outweighs antenna size.
