Charter rate quote

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Liner or NVOCC rate quotation.

A charter rate quote is a rate quotation a carrier, NVOCC, or freight forwarder gives a customer for moving cargo, stating the price and the terms on which it is offered. In container liner trades the quote sets out the box rate or freight all kinds rate per TEU and FEU, the surcharges that apply (bunker adjustment factor, terminal handling charge, peak season), the validity period, and whether freight is prepaid or collect. The quote is an offer, not a binding contract, until the shipper books and the carrier confirms; spot quotes expire quickly in volatile markets, while a service contract fixes rates over a longer term.
