Effective horsepower (EHP)
B1. Naval ArchitectureDefinition
Power required to tow the hull at given speed equal to R_T*V.
Effective power (EHP) is the power needed to tow the bare hull at speed against total resistance: . It is the resistance side of the power chain, before any propulsive losses. Delivered power at the propeller , where the quasi-propulsive coefficient folds in hull, open-water, and relative-rotative efficiencies. EHP comes from model resistance tests or methods like Holtrop-Mennen.
