Endurance22 Expedition
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
2022 discovery of Shackleton's Endurance in the Weddell Sea.
Endurance22 was the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust expedition that located the wreck of Shackleton’s Endurance on 5 March 2022 in the Weddell Sea, at a depth of about 3,008 meters and roughly four nautical miles from the position recorded by Captain Worsley in 1915. Working from the icebreaker Agulhas II with Saab autonomous underwater vehicles, the team found the wreck upright and intact, protected by the cold and the absence of wood-boring organisms. It ranks among the most demanding deep-water archaeological searches ever completed.
