Frigate Officer Training
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Royal Navy and other navy officer pipelines.
Frigate officer training is the warfare and navigation pipeline that prepares commissioned officers to serve aboard frigates, the general-purpose escort warships of most navies. In the Royal Navy, initial officer training runs through Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, followed by warfare, marine-engineering, or weapon-engineering specialization. This is a naval-service pathway under military authority, not a civil STCW certificate of competency, though navigation, watchkeeping, and damage-control content overlaps with merchant-marine training.
