Definition

Vessel with high CB, typical of tankers and bulkers.

A full-form ship is a hull with a high block coefficient, typically CB above about 0.80, so the immersed box LWL by B by T is filled to a large fraction by the hull. Tankers and bulk carriers are the type case, with CB reaching 0.80 to 0.88, because cargo deadweight per unit length is what the design maximizes. The full form carries long parallel middle body, a blunt entrance, a bulbous bow to offset the wave-making the full bow would cause, and a full afterbody that loads the propeller in a thick wake. Full forms are driven slowly, at Froude number around 0.15 to 0.20, where their high wave resistance is acceptable for the cargo capacity.
