Fume scrubber (yard)

A yard fume scrubber is a welding-fume extraction and filtration unit that captures the metal-oxide particulate and gases generated at welding stations and ducts them through filters before discharge, protecting welders from manganese, hexavalent chromium, and other fume constituents. It pairs a capture hood, fume arm, or on-torch extraction with a filter bank (often cartridge or electrostatic) and a fan. Yards deploy it to meet occupational exposure limits for welding fume, which several jurisdictions tightened after welding fume was reclassified as a carcinogen. It is distinct from the marine exhaust-gas scrubbers fitted to ships for SOx control under MARPOL Annex VI.
