Generator running hours
C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical managementDefinition
Hours used to plan maintenance intervals.
Generator running hours are the cumulative operating hours logged for each diesel generator and the emergency generator, read from the hour counter and used to schedule maintenance and balance machinery wear. The planned maintenance system raises overhaul jobs against running-hour thresholds set by the engine maker, for example top overhauls and major overhauls at fixed kilohour intervals. Engineers rotate generators to even out hours and avoid one unit aging faster than the others. The figures feed performance monitoring, the spare-parts forecast, and the auxiliary-engine fuel and lube-oil consumption records reported ashore.
