Geofencing

Geofencing draws a virtual boundary around a geographic area and triggers an alert or action when a tracked asset crosses it. In shipping it is built on AIS, GPS, or fleet-management position feeds: a fleet operator flags entry into a high-risk piracy area, a sanctioned port, an emission control area, or a restricted zone. Geofences support security and compliance monitoring but inherit the weakness of their position source; a spoofed GPS or AIS signal can defeat or falsely fire them, which ties geofencing to the wider concern over AIS and GPS spoofing.
