Hermione Replica
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
2014 French-built replica of Lafayette's frigate.
L’Hermione is a sailing replica of the 1779 French frigate that carried the Marquis de Lafayette to America in 1780 to pledge French support for the American Revolution. Built at Rochefort, France, beginning in 1997 by the Association Hermione-La Fayette, the 32-gun reconstruction was launched in 2014 and made a transatlantic crossing in 2015, visiting Yorktown, Mount Vernon, and ports along the US East Coast. The project used period methods where possible and is among the most ambitious tall-ship reconstructions of the early 21st century.
