HOS-class supply vessel

B5. Ship Types and Individual Vessels

Definition

Hornbeck offshore class.

An HOS-class supply vessel is one of the offshore supply vessels operated by Hornbeck Offshore Services, the US operator whose ships all carry the HOS name prefix, for example HOS Black Foot and HOS Brass Ring. The flagship designs are the HOSMAX series, large DP-2 platform supply vessels built by Eastern Shipbuilding; the HOSMAX 310 runs about 302 by 64 feet with roughly 6,144 long tons deadweight, a diesel-electric plant of four Caterpillar 3516C generators, and twin Schottel Z-drives. The fleet carries ABS class with DPS-2 notation and serves Gulf of Mexico and international deepwater fields with fuel, drill water, liquid mud, dry bulk, and methanol. HOS denotes the owner’s fleet, not a regulatory ship class.
