IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR)

B1. Naval Architecture

Definition

Harmonized rules for bulk carriers and tankers.

The IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR) are the harmonized scantling rules for bulk carriers and oil tankers of 90 m and over, in force in their harmonized form since 1 July 2015. They prescribe net-thickness scantlings, prescriptive and direct (finite-element) strength assessment, fatigue checks, and corrosion additions on one common basis across all IACS member societies, replacing the divergent society-specific rules that preceded them.
