International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities.
IALA, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities, became an intergovernmental organization in 2024 and sets the standards for marine aids to navigation. It maintains the IALA Maritime Buoyage System, which reconciled some thirty conflicting national systems into two regions: Region A (red to port on entering) covers most of the world, and Region B (red to starboard) covers the Americas, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. It also standardizes AIS aids to navigation, VTS, and e-Navigation.
