ICES Advisory Committee (ACOM)

D4. Fisheries, aquaculture, blue economy and marine resources

Definition

Body issuing ICES catch advice.

The Advisory Committee (ACOM) is the body of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea that issues ICES scientific advice on fish stocks and marine ecosystems. ACOM consolidates the output of the expert and benchmark working groups into peer-reviewed catch advice, typically a recommended catch range consistent with the MSY approach and the ICES precautionary reference points B_pa, B_lim, F_pa, and F_lim. This advice underpins EU Common Fisheries Policy total allowable catches and the agreements of NEAFC and other Northeast Atlantic managers, covering stocks from North Sea cod to Northeast Atlantic mackerel.
