Definition

Hull and propeller performance measurement.

ISO 19030 is the three-part standard for measuring changes in a ship’s hull and propeller performance over time, published in 2016. Part 1 sets the general principles and defines performance indicators; Part 2 gives the default method; Part 3 lists alternative methods of varying accuracy. The default method compares measured shaft power at a given speed against a reference speed-power curve, corrects for draft and weather, and tracks the percentage speed loss as fouling and roughness build up. It outputs four indicators: dry-docking performance, in-service performance, maintenance trigger, and maintenance effect. The standard states it is not for comparing different ships and not for regulatory use; it is an operational tool for timing hull cleaning and coating choices.
