ISO 7919

B1. Naval Architecture

Definition

Mechanical vibration of non-reciprocating machinery shafts.

ISO 7919 is the standard for evaluating machine vibration by measurements taken directly on rotating shafts, as distinct from measurements on the bearing housing. Its parts gave evaluation zones (A new, B unrestricted, C restricted, D damaging) for shaft relative and absolute radial displacement near the bearings of steam turbines, gas turbines, coupled industrial machines, and hydraulic sets. It excludes torsional and axial shaft vibration. The whole 7919 family has been withdrawn and folded into the ISO 20816 series, which merges the former shaft-vibration (7919) and bearing-housing (10816) standards into one framework; ISO 20816-3 (2022), for instance, replaces ISO 7919-3 and ISO 10816-3. In marine practice it informs proximity-probe limits on propulsion shafting and turbomachinery.
