Lay-up plan

A lay-up plan is the documented program for taking a ship out of active service and preserving it, covering the layup mode, machinery and tank preservation, manning, mooring, and the eventual reactivation. It sets whether the vessel goes into warm lay-up (systems kept running, faster return) or cold lay-up (machinery shut down, lowest cost), and it lists the safety cover that stays active: fire detection, flooding alarms, mooring monitoring, and shore connections. The plan is agreed with the classification society so class status is handled correctly, and it defines the reactivation survey scope before trading resumes. A weak plan raises corrosion, mooring, and class-reinstatement cost on return.
