Laytime statement
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
Accounting of laytime used and demurrage or despatch due.
The account that reconciles laytime allowed against laytime used at each port and computes the demurrage owed by the charterer or the despatch owed by the owner. It is built from the statement of facts, the notice of readiness times, and the laytime clauses on weather working days, exceptions, and whether time counts at both ends. Disputes over a few hours on a high-rate fixture make the laytime statement a frequent subject of demurrage claims.
