Maintenance management system (PMS)

B2. Marine Engineering

Definition

Class-approved planned maintenance software.

A maintenance management system, usually called a planned maintenance system (PMS), is the class-approved software that schedules, records, and documents machinery maintenance by running hours or calendar date and links each job to spares, manuals, and the maker’s intervals. It generates work orders, logs completed jobs and findings, and tracks spare-part stock, providing the auditable history a surveyor reviews. Under a class Planned Maintenance Scheme the approved PMS lets the chief engineer credit machinery surveys in lieu of the surveyor’s physical opening, provided records and condition monitoring satisfy the class conditions.
