MAN 32/44CR
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Four-stroke common-rail diesel engine.
The MAN 32/44CR is a four-stroke, medium-speed marine diesel engine from MAN Energy Solutions, not a two-stroke. The numbers give a 320 mm bore and 440 mm stroke, and CR marks common-rail fuel injection, which keeps injection pressure high and steady across the load range and decouples timing from speed for a better NOx-versus-fuel-consumption trade at part load. It is built in inline L and vee V forms for propulsion and gensets, typically 480 to 720 rpm. The common-rail control helps it meet NOx Tier II under MARPOL Annex VI Reg 13, with SCR added for Tier III in emission control areas.
