Marine Renewable Energy Vessel

Marine renewable energy vessel is the umbrella class for craft that install, service, and decommission ocean-energy devices other than fixed offshore wind: tidal-stream turbines, wave-energy converters, and floating wind and array cables. Roles span the multipurpose installation or construction vessel, the cable-laying vessel running inter-array cable, the dive and ROV support unit, and the crew transfer or service operation vessel for ongoing maintenance. Most demonstration arrays sit at test sites such as the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, so the fleet is small and often converted from offshore-wind or oil-and-gas tonnage.
