A2. Maritime safety legislation: SOLAS and its codes

Definition

OCIMF Mooring Equipment Guidelines, referenced for SOLAS II-1/3-8.

MEG4 is the fourth edition of OCIMF’s Mooring Equipment Guidelines (2018), the industry reference for mooring line selection, fittings, and tension management. It feeds the SOLAS II-1/3-8 framework on towing and mooring equipment, amended by resolution MSC.474(102), in force 1 January 2024 for passenger ships of any size and cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and above. The supporting IMO instruments are the design guidance in MSC.1/Circ.1175/Rev.1, mooring-arrangement design in MSC.1/Circ.1619, and inspection and maintenance in MSC.1/Circ.1620. MEG4 introduced the Ship Design Minimum Breaking Load and line management plan concepts the IMO guidance reflects.
