Mine Countermeasures Vessel (MCMV)

A mine countermeasures vessel is a warship built specifically to hunt and sweep naval mines, with a low magnetic and acoustic signature so it can work safely inside a minefield. Hulls are glass-reinforced plastic or non-magnetic steel, the machinery is shock-mounted and degaussed, and the ship carries high-definition minehunting sonar, remotely operated mine-disposal vehicles, and clearance divers. Examples include the Royal Navy Hunt and Sandown classes and the US Avenger class (MCM-1). Navies are shifting the role to unmanned systems launched from a standoff mother ship.
