Definition

Vacuum-based automated mooring system.

Cavotec MoorMaster is an automated vacuum mooring system that holds a ship at a berth without lines. Quay-mounted or pontoon-mounted units extend vacuum pads against the hull and hold the vessel in seconds, restraining surge, sway, and yaw and damping ranging motion; the pads release on command for fast turnaround. It removes line handling and is used on ferry berths, bulk loaders, locks, and ship-to-ship transfers. The technology is one form of the automated, line-free mooring that IALA and PIANC describe for high-tempo berths.
