NAFO

The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) is the RFMO managing fishery resources in the high-seas portion of the Northwest Atlantic (FAO Area 21) outside coastal EEZs, established by its 1979 convention in force since 1979. It manages groundfish and other non-tuna, non-salmon stocks such as Greenland halibut, redfish, cod on the Grand Banks tail and the Flemish Cap, shrimp, and yellowtail flounder. NAFO sets total allowable catches and quotas, conservation and enforcement measures, observer and at-sea inspection schemes, and bottom-fishing rules protecting vulnerable marine ecosystems.
