NIPPONSALE 1999
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
Sale and purchase form of the Japan Shipping Exchange.
NIPPONSALE 1999 is the ship sale and purchase form published by the Japan Shipping Exchange (JSE), the latest revision of a form first issued by its Documentary Committee in 1965. It is shorter and simpler than the Norwegian Saleform and is favored by Japanese sellers. The form fixes arbitration in Tokyo and is silent on governing law, so Japanese law is assumed. It is regarded as thin and is often supplemented with rider clauses on inspection, encumbrances, and delivery documents. Buyers dealing with Japanese owners must be prepared to contract on this form.
