Panama Canal tonnage (PC/UMS) is a special net tonnage measured under the Panama Canal Universal Measurement System for toll assessment, distinct from the ITC69 net tonnage on a ship’s certificates. The Panama Canal Authority issues a PC/UMS certificate stating the tonnage on which laden and ballast tolls are charged. Larger neopanamax locks since 2016 changed the dimensional limits but the tonnage basis for many segments still drives the toll calculation.
