PAO synthetic oil

PAO synthetic oil is a lubricant whose base stock is polyalphaolefin, a synthesized hydrocarbon (API Group IV base oil) made by oligomerizing alpha-olefins to a uniform molecular structure. PAO gives a high viscosity index, a low pour point, and strong oxidation and thermal stability versus mineral base oils, so it holds film strength across a wide temperature range and resists deposit formation. Onboard it serves gear, compressor, refrigeration, and some hydraulic and turbine applications where long drain intervals and cold or hot extremes would degrade a Group I or II mineral oil.
