Project cargo

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Heavy lift or oversized cargo for projects.

Project cargo is the engineered transport of oversized, heavy, or high-value units for a single capital project, such as turbines, transformers, reactors, cranes, and prefabricated modules. The pieces exceed standard container or trailer limits, so they move as break-bulk or on flat-rack and open-top equipment, often needing heavy-lift cranes, modular trailers, route surveys, and bridge and load-bearing studies. A project forwarder plans the full chain, sequencing manufacture, multimodal legs, and site delivery against the construction schedule, since a late or wrong-sequence arrival stalls the build. Heavy-lift vessels with onboard cranes handle the largest single lifts.
