Quay Crane Operator

A terminal worker trained to operate a ship-to-shore (STS) container gantry crane, lifting containers between the vessel and the quay at modern container terminals. Working from an elevated cab or, increasingly, a remote-control desk, the operator handles single, twin, and tandem lifts, manages spreader alignment and twist-lock engagement, and sustains move rates that drive a berth’s productivity. The trade requires certification under terminal safety procedures and the relevant OSHA or national crane-operation standards; loads of 40 to 65 tonnes under the spreader are routine.
