SCOPIC Clause
A5. Maritime Law, private and commercialDefinition
Special Compensation P&I Clause incorporated into LOF.
The Special Compensation P&I Clause is a supplement that the salvor or owner can invoke on top of a Lloyd’s Open Form salvage. Once invoked, it replaces the uncertain Article 14 special compensation with a tariff of agreed day rates for tugs, personnel, and equipment, plus a 25 percent uplift, payable by the shipowner’s P&I club whether or not property is salved. SCOPIC decouples the salvor’s environmental-protection reward from salved value, the gap exposed in The Nagasaki Spirit, and is administered through a special casualty representative.
