SDG 14

D4. Fisheries, aquaculture, blue economy and marine resources

Definition

Sustainable Development Goal 14, conserve and sustainably use the oceans.

Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Below Water, is the UN 2030 Agenda goal to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources. Adopted in 2015, it has ten targets including 14.2 ecosystem management, 14.4 ending overfishing and rebuilding stocks to MSY levels, 14.5 conserving at least 10 percent of coastal and marine areas, 14.6 prohibiting fisheries subsidies that contribute to overcapacity and IUU fishing, and 14.b access for small-scale fishers. Target 14.4 set 2020 as the deadline to restore stocks, a deadline that was missed for many fisheries.
