Seafarers UK
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
Charitable heritage and welfare organization, formerly King George's Fund for Sailors.
A British grant-making maritime welfare charity, founded in 1917 as King George’s Fund for Sailors to support the dependants of seafarers lost in the First World War. It traded as Seafarers UK from 2005 and renamed itself The Seafarers’ Charity in 2021; its registered legal name with the Charity Commission (number 226446) remains King George’s Fund for Sailors. It funds, rather than delivers, welfare, distributing grants to merchant navy, fishing, and Royal Navy beneficiaries across the Commonwealth.
