Sealing of container

Sealing of a container is the act of fitting a numbered mechanical seal across the door locking bars after stuffing, so any unauthorized opening leaves tamper evidence. The seal is not a lock; it secures the door’s right-hand cam-keeper and is destroyed to open the box. Customs security programs require a high-security seal meeting ISO 17712 class H, with the unique seal number recorded on the bill of lading, the packing list, and the customs declaration to keep the chain of custody intact. A mismatch between the seal number on arrival and the documented number triggers an examination. Reefers, open-tops, and flat racks are sealed where a closeable door exists.
