South Pacific RFMO (SPRFMO)

The South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO) is the RFMO for non-tuna, non-highly-migratory resources of the high seas of the South Pacific, with a convention in force since 2012. Its flagship managed stock is Chilean jack mackerel (Trachurus murphyi), for which it sets an overall total allowable catch and national allocations, alongside measures for jumbo flying squid and for deep-sea bottom fisheries on the Nazca and other ridges. SPRFMO applies bottom-fishing rules to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems and operates a record of authorized vessels and a VMS scheme.
