Statement of Facts

X15. Ports, Terminals and Stevedoring

Definition

SOF, time log of port events from arrival to departure.

The statement of facts is the chronological log of a vessel’s port call, recording arrival, tendering of the notice of readiness, berthing, the start and stop of cargo operations, stoppages with their causes (weather, holidays, breakdowns), and departure, with times to the minute. Signed by the master and the agent or terminal, it is the primary evidence for the laytime calculation and any demurrage or despatch claim. It is read together with the charter party’s laytime exceptions to apportion time as counting or not counting against laytime.
