Definition

Thermodynamic Equation of Seawater 2010, the international standard for seawater thermodynamics.

TEOS-10, the Thermodynamic Equation of Seawater 2010, is the IOC/SCOR/IAPSO international standard for computing seawater properties from a Gibbs function. It replaced EOS-80, introducing Absolute Salinity (g/kg) and Conservative Temperature as the variables that conserve mass and heat under mixing, and provides consistent density, sound speed, and enthalpy. Climate and ocean-model output and the World Ocean Database now report in TEOS-10 variables.
