Theater ASW Commander

A theater anti-submarine warfare commander is the naval authority who directs ASW across a maritime region or theater, fusing the sensor picture from maritime patrol aircraft, surface escorts, attack submarines, fixed undersea arrays, and ocean surveillance to localize and prosecute enemy boats. The role coordinates the layered barrier and choke-point tactics that deny an adversary’s submarines access to open ocean, and allocates scarce ASW assets across protecting high-value units and hunting offensively. In US doctrine the function sits under the numbered fleet or task force commander rather than being a single fixed billet.
