Trim and stability booklet

B1. Naval Architecture

Definition

Document containing loading conditions and stability data.

The trim and stability booklet is the approved onboard document holding the ship’s loading conditions, hydrostatic data, cross-curves, and the trim and stability results for each standard condition. SOLAS Chapter II-1 Regulation 5-1 requires it in a working language of the officers, derived from the lightship data established by the inclining experiment. Each condition lists drafts, trim, GM corrected for free surface, the GZ curve, and the pass or fail against every applicable IMO 2008 IS Code criterion. It is the same document as the stability booklet, with trim and the deadweight distribution given equal prominence so the master can verify any intended loading before sailing.
