Trinity House

Trinity House is the General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) for England, Wales, the Channel Islands, and Gibraltar, and a maritime charity, incorporated by royal charter from Henry VIII in 1514 as the Guild of the Holy Trinity. It maintains lighthouses, lightvessels, buoys, and other aids to navigation in those waters, funded through light dues levied on commercial shipping. Trinity House also licenses deep-sea pilots, supports seafarer welfare and training as a charity, and its Elder Brethren act as nautical assessors to the Admiralty Court. The Northern Lighthouse Board and Irish Lights are the parallel GLAs.
