Trip charter
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
Time charter for a single voyage or short trip.
A trip charter, or trip time charter (TCT), is a time charter let for a single voyage or short defined trip rather than a period, with hire paid per day for the duration of that trip. The charterer directs the employment for the one voyage (for example a trans-Atlantic round or a one-way delivery) and pays bunkers and port charges, while the owner keeps crewing and technical operation. It combines the daily-hire mechanics of a time charter with the single-voyage scope of a voyage charter, and is quoted on a daily basis so it can be compared directly to period hire and to a voyage-charter TCE. NYPE terms commonly govern dry trip charters.
