Definition

United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, publisher of Admiralty charts.

UKHO, the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, is the British government agency that produces Admiralty charts and nautical publications used worldwide. Based in Taunton, it maintains the Admiralty portfolio of paper and electronic navigational charts, the Admiralty Tide Tables, sailing directions, and the ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service. It operates under the IHO framework, supplying data to S-57 and S-100 standards, and serves both UK waters and a global charting commitment inherited from the Royal Navy hydrographic tradition begun in 1795. UKHO charts reference WGS 84 and the lowest astronomical tide chart datum, with survey quality assessed against IHO S-44.
