Volga Shipping Cluster
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Russian inland maritime community.
The Russian inland-waterway maritime concentration along the Volga River and the Volga-Don and Volga-Baltic canal systems, which link the Caspian, Black, and Baltic seas through Russia’s interior. It groups river-sea operators, inland barge fleets, and the river ports at Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, and Astrakhan handling oil, grain, and dry bulk. Volga Shipping is a long-established river-sea operator; the cluster supports Russia’s domestic and Caspian trade rather than deep-sea ocean shipping.
