Wartime Trading Warranties

E2. Naval, defence and maritime law enforcement

Definition

Hull policy clauses governing belligerent calls.

Wartime trading warranties are clauses in a hull and machinery or war-risks marine policy that condition cover on the vessel’s trading limits and calls during armed conflict, breach of which can suspend or void the war-risks cover. War risks are excluded from the standard hull policy by the war exclusion (the Institute clauses’ free of capture and seizure wording) and bought back under a separate war-risks policy. The Joint War Committee’s listed areas (the JWC Hull War, Piracy, Terrorism and Related Perils Listed Areas) trigger additional premium notification when a ship enters them; entering a listed or excluded zone without notice can breach the warranty.
