UNEP-WCMC, the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre, is the biodiversity-assessment center of UNEP based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, operating as a collaboration between UNEP and the WCMC charity. It compiles and analyzes global biodiversity data to inform policy, maintaining flagship datasets including the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA), the source for Protected Planet and for tracking the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework Target 3 (the 30x30 goal of protecting 30 percent of land and sea by 2030), the World Database on Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures, and trade data underpinning CITES. Its marine work covers protected-area coverage, ocean data, and ecosystem-service assessment. It is the leading global protected-area data authority.
