Weight bridge ticket

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Certified weighbridge slip used for VGM.

A weighbridge ticket is the certified slip produced when a laden truck, container, or wagon is weighed on a calibrated weighbridge, recording the gross, tare, and net weights, the date and time, and the weighbridge identity. Its main use in container export is to establish the verified gross mass (VGM) under SOLAS Chapter VI Regulation 2, which since 1 July 2016 bars loading a packed container without a VGM the shipper has verified. Method 1 weighs the whole packed container on a calibrated scale; the weighbridge ticket is the source record. The weighbridge must be calibrated to the applicable legal-metrology standard for the figure to be accepted by the carrier and terminal.
